Binomial name: Prunus avium L.

The cherry tree is a deciduous tree of greyish bark, that can reach up to 20 meters in height.

Origin: it is native to the ancient Mesopotamia, the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.

Medicinal values: it has antioxidant and antiseptic properties (it fights infections, it reduces the cardiovascular risk and the risk of stroke), and it protects the blood vessels. Besides, it has laxative properties, it helps reducing uric acid and it prevents the development of some kinds of cancer.

Curiosities: inside cherry stones there is a small almond very toxic. Some little birds ingest them without danger, but they cannot digest them. When they excrete them, they spread them and improve their germination potential.
