Blueberry

Binomial name: Vaccinium myrtillus L.

The blueberry is a small bush of 20 centimetres to a metre height. Its flowering time goes from April to June.

Origin: this fruit is found natively in Asia and Europe.

Medicinal values: both leaves and fruits are useful. The blueberry has astringent, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory action, as is used to treat diarrhea and it reduces the sugar in blood (for diabetics), as well. In its external use it is indicated for eczemas, wounds or hearing weakness.

Curiosities: it is said that, blueberries mixed with milk dyed it of purple; thus they were used by painters.
