Redcurrant

Binomial name: Ribes sp.

The redcurrant is a deciduous shrub normally growing up to 1-1.5 m tall, occasionally 2m.

Origin: it is native to Central Europe and North Asia.

Medicinal values: they facilitate and tone up the digestion functions. Besides, they are indicated in case of lack of appetite, convalescence of feverish states and infections, rheumatism, gout or kidney stones.

Curiosities: in Greece the fruits of black, reddish or violet colour and dark in general are called “titans blood”.
