Binomial name: Achras zapota

It is a herbaceous plant distributed at regions of all over the world.

Origin: it is an ornamental tree. In the 19th century started to consume the fruit in the Mediterranean area. It came from East China, from where extended to Japan. In the late sixties and early seventies of 20th century began intensive cultivation.

Medicinal values: it is not advisable in gastrointestinal disorders or diarrhoea. It is suitable, instead, for the constipation, high blood pressure, gout, obesity, diabetes, hypertriglyceridemia. It contributes minerals, magnesium, calcium and, especially potassium. It stands out its wealth in fibre, tannins and aromatic substances. Beta carotene benefits the vision, skin status, hair, mucous membranes, bones, immune system, etc.

Curiosities: it is very adapted for athletes, after suffering situations of stress or when they have a low defense level.
