Binomial name: Citrus sinensis L.

Oranges bloom at the beginning of the spring, with a maturation period that covers the period mid-autumn to almost launched summer.

Origin: it comes from Southeast Asian (Southeast China and Malaysian Archipelago). It is cultivated in Southern China and extended, besides, from Europe until United States (Florida, California), South America (Brazil), South Africa and Australia.

Medicinal values: it is appropriated to combat constipation, diabetes, excess weight, hypertriglyceridemia, hypertension cases and cholesterol; besides, it is very important in children’s nutrition. By the contrary, consumption is discouraged in cases of diarrhea and gastrointestinal disorders.

Curiosities: the colour can change between day and night temperatures. Its juice combined with champagne or liquor designates “agua de Valencia”.
